There's just something about Massachusetts which inspires authors. One of my favorite mystery series is Spenser for Hire by Robert B. Parker. I love how he creates snappy dialogue and memorable characters. Then there's the beautiful poetry of Emily Dickinson.

Here are just a few of the many books which are set in Massachusetts. Let me know if you know of others!

The Lucky Cat The Lucky Cat
This mini-mystery short story series has 31 books in it, and it was written a book-a-day during October 2014. The series features a black female detective who investigates the odd comings and goings of Salem, Massachusetts. Local haunts are prominantly featured in this series!

This series of full-length murder mystery novels is set in the central Massachusetts town of Sutton. The heroine, Morgan, enjoys yoga and kayaking. Her life is serene and peaceful. That is all disturbed when she comes across a dead body during one of her walks in the woods. With the help of a handsome forest ranger, can she get to the bottom of this mystery?

Rumble Strip Rumble Strip
Tricia Forney was exhausted. She'd put in a long night working at the Boston Law Library. All she wanted to do was get home, trudge up the snowy hill to her front door, feed the tiger barbs, and get some sleep. If she could just drive the few remaining miles ...

Her eyes faded closed ...

Dwell in Possibility Dwell in Possibility

The Thunderbolt Hits.

Must've Done Something Good Must've Done Something Good
A teaching position at the broken-down St. Matthew's High School in Worcester, Massachusetts appears to be Sylvie's perfect opportunity to do some good. Whether she's becoming a bit too invested in the students' fall fundraiser or directing the school's sure-fire musical disaster, Sylvie's charmingly irreverent style gets her called down to the principal more often than her students.

Haiku of the Great Blue Hill Haiku of the Great Blue Hill
Haiku of the Great Blue Hill - Poetry and Watercolors of Massachusetts is Lisa's first book of published poetry. Lisa has been writing poetry since she was a young girl. She has always adored the Japanese culture and ran a feudal Japan newsletter for ten years. While Lisa was born in Maryland, she has lived in Massachusetts, with two brief departures, for nearly the past thirty years. She adores its rolling hills, mossy forests, and serene coastlines.

The History of Sutton Massachusetts The History of Sutton Massachusetts
This ebook version is currently 1,085 pages long. It has all the text of the original, all images placed optimally throughout, and the footnotes are integrated into the text. Even the errata are integrated, with full notes in place about each change. Where other versions of this book are chock-full of typos and issues, including in the genealogical data and dates (!!) Lisa made an enormous effort to vet the results. She knows how important accuracy is in a document like this.

Massachusetts Lighthouses - Beacons of Hope and Comfort Massachusetts Lighthouses - Beacons of Hope and Comfort
This book covers lighthouses in Massachusetts. I have lived in Massachusetts for over twenty years and love the beautiful coastline. I include a checklist for your use. It's a fun project to visit every lighthouse and to think of the countless lives they have saved.
