Moby Dick's Name Origins
Moby Dick by Herman Melville was based on an article Mocha Dick which talked about a whale which had been captured - one notorious for attacking whaling ships. It was known to hang around the island of Mocha, and Dick was just a common name like 'Tom' or 'Sam' or 'Bob'.
