Alexander Graham Bell Alexander Graham Bell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1847. He was very interested in the problems of deaf people, and he worked on both microphone and sound amplifier equipment.
Alexander Graham Bellīs famous first words on his telephone were, "Watson - come here - I want you" on March 10th, 1876. He did his research and experimentation in Boston.
The invention was immediately popular. Only 2 years later, in 1878, he had a telephone exchange running in New Haven, CT. The work continued at blistering speed and by 1884 there were long distance conversations going between New York City and Boston.
