Boston Baked Beans
Boston developed its love for baked beans because it had a huge trade in molasses. The dish combined this molasses with the plentiful and cheap beans produced locally. In fact, in the olden days, there were huge tanks of molasses all along the dock area.

Typically, navy beans are used with the molasses, plus some salt, mustard, salt pork and onions. The mixture would be simmered for about an hour, then baked for 7 hours to create the thick bean stew.
