1972 - Women Allowed to Run Marathon Women were not allowed to run in the Boston Marathon until 1972. Several women did "sneak in" before this, either by signing up with just a first initial, or jumping into the race when the gun went off.
Nina Kuscsik was the first woman to win the women´s race, in 1972, out of 8 entered women.
