Cape and Islands Trivia
The limerick has been a popular form of poetry for many years. A limerick, named after Limerick, Ireland, is a witty poem with 5 lines. The famous Nantucket limerick took on a life of its own when various papers around the US started a running 'limerick story' that was carried from paper to paper.
It began with:
There once was a man from Nantucket,
Who kept all of his cash in a bucket,
But his daughter, named Nan,
Ran away with a man,
And as for the bucket, Nantucket.
