Boston Massachusetts Information -
First, I would like to correct some errors in the previous postings on transportation:
1. MassPort only runs Logan Airport and the seaport. Historically they also operated the Tobin Bridge, but not now.
2. The MBTA isn't just subways and trolleys; it also includes city buses and commuter rail. (See more on this below.)
3. Amtrak (and commuter) trains don't run "through" Boston. Boston has two major train stations, North Station and South Station. They are only 1 1/2 miles apart, but there isn't any direct rail connection between them. There is a group that has been working for over 15 years to have such a connection built, but it won't happen for at least seven years.
Greater Boston has an excellent commuter rail system. It isn't just for commuters. The trains run thru late evening and on weekends. There are a lot of fine places you can get to via commuter train from Boston, such as Cape Ann, Lowell, Worcester, and Plymouth. Some of the commuter train routes extend more than 40 miles from Boston.
