The Worcester Smiley Face
Worcester, Massachusetts is the original home of the smiley face! In late 1963, Harvey Ball drew up the design for his employer, State Mutual Insurance, as part of an employee morale exercise. He was paid $45 for the task and the design became a huge hit. Harvey died in 2001 at age 79.
