(Frederick) Childe Hassam (1859-1935) was born in born in Dorchester, Massachusetts. He was born to parents who traced their lineage to early settlers of this region. His father was a cutlery merchant, and Childe grew up painting and sketching as his hobby.
Childe is famous for his paintings of New England, of families, and the sparkling effects he achieved in them.
